Sweet potato quickly became one of my favourite ingredients when my little one started solids. Once steamed, it was already so soft and creamy that blending took hardly any effort. I also loved that its natural sweetness meant there was no need to add sugar or other sweeteners.

Ingredients for Sweet Potato Puree
You only need two simple ingredients:
- ½ medium sweet potato
- 2–4 tbsp warm water, as needed
Choose a sweet potato that feels firm and has no soft or damaged areas.
How to Make Sweet Potato Puree for Baby
1. Prepare the Sweet Potato
Peel and wash the sweet potato thoroughly. Cut it into small, evenly sized cubes.
2. Steam Until Soft
Steam for around 10–15 minutes, or until the sweet potato is completely soft and easily pierced with a fork.
3. Blend Until Smooth
Transfer the cooked sweet potato into a baby food blender.
Add warm water one tablespoon at a time and blend until smooth.
4. Serve Warm
Transfer the sweet potato puree for baby into a clean baby bowl and allow it to cool before serving.
Sweet potato is naturally sweet, so there’s no need to add sugar or other sweeteners.

Sweet potato was one of my favourite ingredients for meal prep because it becomes naturally creamy after steaming.
I usually start with very little water when blending because it’s always easier to add more if the puree is too thick.

Allow the puree to cool before transferring it into a clean, airtight food container and refrigerating it promptly.
If you’re preparing several portions, divide them into individual containers so you can take out only what you need for each meal.
